Our mailers are made from 100% compostable materials and are designed to completely degrade in to H20 & C02 without leeching toxins into the soil. In fact, food can be grown using the compost that a Mielie Mailer is disposed in.

70% PBAT - 25% Mielies  - 5% PLA

We currently offer two sizes:

Medium - 300mm x 420mm

Large - 395mm x 455mm

We do indeed! Our Mielie Mailers have been certified for domestic home compostability by all three industry certifiers: TUV Austria, BPI and Dincerto, meeting American, European, International and Australian standards.

Our mailers are not only better for the planet, but they are actually stronger than traditional plastic. How? Due to the nature of the plant materials used, our mailers are tear-resistant and stretch to distribute the weight over the whole bag, rather than in just one section. 

We have an entire page dedicated to our magical mailers. 

Our Mielie Mailers can be composted in one of two ways:

In a commercial composting facility where they will completely break down within 90 days.

In a backyard/home composting environment where they will completely break down within 180 days  

Please note: any stickers or attached waybill pockets need to be removed prior to composting. Please recycle these add-ons wherever possible. :)  

Unfortunately, not. Landfills tend to entomb waste products in an environment devoid of air, moisture or bacteria, giving our mailers no chance to decompose. 

Currently, the technology doesn't exist to create completely transparent home compostable 'plastic' from plant materials - a requirement for waybill pockets. 

 Stickers! Our mailers love stickers... 

Mielie Mailers should be stored in a cool, dry place at room temperature (<25 Celsius).

If stored correctly, our mailers will retain their strength for 12-months.

Our Mielie Mailers are made where almost all things are, China. 

Our strategic manufacturing partner is an industry leader in using sustainable, plant-derived materials to create green alternatives to everyday products. 

Local production of our mailers is on our five-year roadmap. :)

Not yet, but we are almost there!

Due to the plant-based component of our mailers, they already have a lower carbon-footprint than traditional plastic. 

If they were any other colour, our bags would be slightly transparent, which is a security issue.

Don't worry though - the ink used leeches no toxins in the environment and falls within the scope of our certifications. 

Yip! Light drizzle or torrential rain, our mailers can handle it all.
